When your congregational treasurer sends your mission support offering to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, where do those dollars go?
This year in the Greater Milwaukee Synod, 61 percent will be sent on to the ELCA Churchwide Organization, where it is used for support of global mission, congregational support, evangelical outreach, training and lifting up leaders and working with societal issues on our behalf. Sixty-one percent giving makes this synod the leader among the 65 ELCA synods.
Of the 38 percent mission support money that remains, a portion goes to partnership ministries and a portion to synod ministries as listed below. Just as in the congregation, these ministries experience growing needs to maintain their mission, much less grow. So we are called on to support this body of which we are members. Next time someone asks where the money goes, think of the ministries represented here. Think of the mission that will not happen if there is less support.
When times are difficult, we are called to be even more generous. Experience the joy of giving -- support the body of Christ through your regular giving to the whole church!
