The Greater Milwaukee Synod gathered for the 2010 Assembly June 3-5, in the expression of how our ministry goes "Beyond the Walls." In addition to the election of our 18 representatives for the 2011 Churchwide Assembly in Orlando, FL., the assembly passed two resolutions, regarding changes to the Board of Pensions Bridge & Annuity Fund and one making it a goal of the synod to achieve 10% youth and young adult representation at future assemblies.

10th Anniversary of Anti-Racism Work
The assembly recognized the 10th anniversary anti-racism and poverty training in our synod and those who have carried out this ministry throughout the years. Pr. Fred Thomas-Breitfeld shared his thoughts on the work that is often difficult to talk about but vital to our ministry in these times. Watch the video here:
All leaders in the church are encourage to participate in anti-racism and poverty training. The next opportunity to participate will workshops on June 25-26 and July 23-24; Breaking the Bonds: A Workshop on Internalized Oppression and Troubling the Waters for the Healing of the Church: A Journey for White Christians from Privilege to Partnership facilitated by LHRA. The cost to attend both workshops is $150. Contact Marilyn Miller at marilyn@lhra.org for more information. These workshops are intended for those who have previously participated in anti-racism training.
Beyond the Walls Missional Work
Council Vice-President Susan Cyr presented the next phase of our missional work, formerly-known as Fresh Expressions, at the assembly. Pastor Mark Jaramillo shared an inspiring story of how working with God's plan inspired Norway Evangelical, Wind Lake to reach out to thousands of Harley riders through their Bike Blessing. Don Hintzle shared how this work call us all to get out of comfort zone by doing the work God calls us to do.
This work will continue as we plan how to implement our mission directions on Saturday, July 17 (9 a.m. - noon) at Adoration LC, Greenfield, and review our renewable planning practices.
Our mission directions: Nurturing transformational leadership, repairing our broken world: addressing hunger and poverty, and overcoming the "Isms" that divide
